Lucy: So what's wrong with the old amendments? Danae: They just need a little tweaking and updating. Lucy: Uh... like what? Danae: Like the first one... people abuse it, so I'm changing it to the right for everyone to shut up around me. Lucy: OK... I don't think you can do that, and besides... Danae: Sh-h-h... you're violating my Constitutional rights.

She will fit right in with the current administration.

You have the right to remain silent. If you waive this right then anything you say will be taken down and used to ridicule you later. It is unnecessary for you to know or understand this right for it to be in effect.

Perhaps Danae should take a long constitutional off a short pier.

You don’t have to be old enough to vote for the Republicans to accept your votes. They’ll take them from any source; even fictional ones.
there you go again….that’s the “Chicago way”, silly….

I’ve just re-written them myself: You have the right to never disagree with me in the comments section.

Ladyfingers86, I never heard of a talking horse either. Except for Mr. Ed, of course.

You stole this from Palin.

So how is she going to get the majority of congress to vote for her changes? No one can change the constitution by themselves.

OK OK OK so Danae does get a little (A LOT) irritating from time to time. This does not mean she is hopeless. Think positive thoughts about her. She’ll come around. I hope.

The Canadian Human Rights Commission is under the mistaken belief that the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms grants Canadians the right to NEVER be offended by anyone or anything. (Hence a magazine that published cartoons of Mohamed being bankrupted by the HRC because someone was offended by them.) Danae would feel right at home as a Commissioner, happily presiding over a kangaroo court set up to take away people’s Constitutional rights…

Actually, I think Danae’s got a point. You have the right to speak freely, but I am under no obligation to listen to you. Nor do you have the right to force your speech into my ears if I don’t wish to listen. Yet many people in our society (and not just political speakers; the entire advertising industry is based on this idea) claim the “right” to force their “speech” upon others, regardless of the others’ desire to listen.
Indeed, this perversion of the free-speech concept has become so widely accepted that we had a major debate not that long ago, in which one side insisted that the technological equivalent of putting your hands over your ears was somehow “censorship.” Remember the furor over the television “V-chip” and filtering software in web browsers? These things were always under the control of the person watching the TV or browsing the web; they were device for saying, “don’t show me content I don’t want to see,” but people who were in the business of forcing their speech upon others made a noisy (if un-compelling) case that the mere existence of such technology was somehow restricting their right of free speech.

Lucy has a strong constitution (would that be considered ‘profiling’?), but in panel 3, she looks like she’s just about at the end of her rope. lol! great strip and acr Wiley!

Yes, the Republicans are trying to stifle free speech. That’s why it’s the Democrats who want to take talk radio off the air. And no you don’t have to be old enough to vote Republican apparently, but you don’t even have to be living to vote Democrat. Anyone who is foolish enough to believe that the Republicans are doing any more to take away your liberties than the Democrats are, deserves exactly what they’ll get from the Democrats, which is a big fat load of bovine excrement. (Same as from the GOP)

OK, Danae can legislate all she wants–but who’s gonna enforce her new rules?
gfredrickson85 almost 14 years ago
Yeah, you don’t have to be living or even a citizen to vote Democrat.
