There was a Twilight Zone episode, “The Bewitchin’ Pool,” similar to this. I don’t remember much about it, except that Mary Badham was one of the kids. (Ms. Badham portrayed Scout Finch in To Kill A Mockingbird.)

Any water directly exposed to the environment, such as the liquid on your eyes or tongue would boil off in a matter of seconds. About ten seconds into the ordeal, you would lose vision.
