It does work. Ever notice that the organic bananas in the supermarket have their stems wrapped? At least I see that in MY supermarket. Longer shelf life even in the store…..
Hang the bananas to extend their life. It allows their ethylene gas, which speeds ripening, to disapate. When they are laid down they sit in a cloud of their own gas and ripen more quickly, especially on the bottom. Get a plastic “banana tree” sold in some grocery stores.

I stick them in the refrigerator once they’re ripe enough for my taste. They get brown on the outside but inside stay good for days.
