A few months ago, a friend of mine realized a juvenile mockingbird had fallen down into the sewer on her street. We called Animal Control, but they couldnât do anything about it, âcause somebodyâs truck was parked with its tire on top of the sewer grate.
My friend therefore fashioned a net, attached it to the end of a long pole, fished the freezing bird out of the sewer, and fed it oatmeal and put it to bed next to a hot water bottle.
Sadly, it died during the night. My friend was distraught, but I told her at least the creature didnât have to die alone and freezing in a sewer.
On a previous occasion she found another juvenile mockingbird whoâd gotten separated from his parents and was running around in the gutter. He woulda been eaten by a cat for sure, so she took him home for the night and give him a good meal.
The next day she found his parents in a bush, plaintively chirping for their lost child. She released him into the bush, and they lived happily ever after.
His name was Chip, and to this day he sings my friendâs praises, telling all the other birds of her kindness.
Her name is Dani and she is one of my bestest friends.
Elisha Cook, Jr. appeared in several classic Bogart movies. He usually added good things to the movies.
Rasputin is utterly fascinating. There was a biography written a few years ago, with lots of interesting information, but almost unreadable because of poor or non-existent editing of the manuscript. Canât remember the author, though.
In Vancouver, BC a mother duck had this happen to her and actually approached a policeman, made a racket, convinced him to follow her and saved her ducklings.
@cleokaya - I heard that duck story reported somewhere too. There are some pix out on the net of various other duckling rescues - unfortunately it happens all too frequently.
I am at this moment reading âLifeâ by Keith Richards. His girlfriend (at the time) Linda Keith, had an affair with Jimi Hendrix.
As Keith tells it:
ââŠshe picked up a copy of a demo I had of Tim Rose singing a song called âHey Joe.â And took that round to Roberta Goldsteinâs, where Jimi was, and played it to him. This is rock-and-roll history. So he got the song from me, apparently.â
I want to apply for a FA job!
I can name 90% of runway-filler models in a fashion show. I also can perform the Lotus Shoulderstand (and I can prove it http://i.imgur.com/Ika2F.jpg). If neither of both is enough for a post at Yoga-Showdown Starter and FA Reader Casting Director thereâs always the chance I can wear a table dress so every actual FA employee can have a coffee. http://i.imgur.com/ZqmAX.jpg

That missile launcher on the blog is a catapult. A sling shot consists of a sling whirled around the head, launching a missile by centrifugal force. The device usually termed a sling shot in the US is actually a catapult, and is properly referred to as such in England. So there.
People, can we keep this discussion civil? Back to underwhere.

Did you all know that originally âtypewriterâ referred to the person using the machine rather than the machine itself?
So, I would say that is the sexiest typewriter I have ever seen!

Regarding the list of terms of endearment:
My friend Dani (see bird stories above) has been known to refer to me as âCrap Headâ and âChicken F*er.â
That last one was inspired by the âChicken F*erâ episode of South Park.
