And Martha says, “Now who’s a little dinghy?”

Oh, NOW Martha (or her parents or brother) tell Michael as he dives off?

Be yourself Michael, no need to impress as we all know, it backfires.

Been there, done that. Blissfully unaware of the fact at the time.

Gotta admit Mike’s posture was great in panel 2 which makes panel 4 so hilarious. Yeah, never buy white swimsuit unless it is well lined as in thickly lined. Even if lined, the hair down there should be shaved. Best yet, just don’t buy white.

Five will get you ten that the remark came from the brother and was intended to embarrass Mike.

I remember the (in)famous Cheryl Tiegs version of the transparent swimsuit. Yowzers.

That reminds of the time when 2 women in white bikinis was sitting in front of me on the beach. I thought to myself “They are just on the beach to get a tan”. However, the next thing I see is them going for a swim. Needless to say my jaw hit the ground when they got out of the water. The either didn’t realize wearing white wasn’t a good idea or just didn’t care, but either way it was kind of funny.

    Lynn’s Comments:

When I was about 18, I went with a couple of girl friends to English Bay. Adelheid, who was a stunning dark beauty, ran into the water in an opaque, white bathing suit. But, when she walked back to us, we could see everything. Wet, her white suit had become transparent. She was horrified and spent the rest of the time rolled in a towel. Interestingly, I don’t see too many plain white bathing suits!

Since Lynn Johnston used her family for this strip, it is curious if all these events happened when her son was dating. Martha may not be precisely like Lynn Johnston’s daughter-in-law, but is the character close to the real-life woman her son ended up marrying?

Martha’s brother needs an attitude adjustment.

The proper response is: Yes, that’s why I bought them.
