If I made Michael’s gesture in 3rd panel in Middle School, I would’ve gotten demolished repeatedly. I know this cause I’ve seen it happen to other misfortunates!
Michael, this is a family outing, not a date. The brother belongs on the outing; he is not tagging along. You are the one who is the outsider tagging along. It was nice of Martha’s parents to invite you. Stop whining or you won’t be welcome in future.
We are sure the Pattersons, are nonetheless a tight-knit family. Since this strip is set in the 1980s, this would be a good story:
The Pattersons are watching Michael compete in a karate tournament
Ring Announcer: “And now for the semifinals, Bobby Brown of Cobra Kai and Michael Patterson of Migayi-Do Karate!”
John Kreese: “I want you to put him out of commission.”
Bobby Brown: “Sensei, I can beat this guy!”
John Kreese: “I don’t want him to lose. I want him out of commission.”
Referee: “Ready….Fight!”
Bobby starts with a roundhouse to Michael’s knee, causing Michael to double over in pain
Audience reacts in horror. John looks with shocked look, while Elizabeth and Martha turn their heads toward Elly in horror
Elly: “Oh my Lord!”
Bobby: “Michael, are you OK? I am so sorry!”
Ring Announcer: “The tournament will be suspended for 15 minutes. Michael Patterson will be checked out by the fight doctor to determine whether or not he can continue.”
