A few years ago I read that some farms in Norway were testing a GPS-based “invisible fence”. My recollection is that each sheep had an electric collar, and as it approached a “boundary” (as “seen” by the GPS system) it would receive progressively stronger shocks, thus encouraging it to turn around.
I didn’t try to follow news about it, so I don’t know what the current status might be.
