Okay, that was a joke, but itâs almost not; our society currently faces multiple disasters because people have been taught for decades by unethical media personalities that uninformed, even willfully-ignorant opinions are as valid as scientifically-proven fact.
Not to get too serious about a comic, but in my experience the majority of âopinionsâ, being subjective, are more often invalid. The more certain someone is about their opinion, the more invalid it is likely to be. History and the record of human bigotry, violence and atrocity bears this out.
I made this observation to a friend once and she objected, âBut we are right more than wrong. Look at the technological advances weâve made!â My response: âAdvances? Sure, weâve accomplished some amazing things. And look at what those âadvancesâ are doing to out planet. We went for thousands of years without seriously harming our planet. Then we enter a single century of technology and weâre bringing ourselves to the brink⊠because we think we know what weâre doing.â
One of the greatest flaws of the human species is making an observation, drawing a conclusion, and foolishly believing we are right.
