Where did those marks come from?

When I was a kid in 3rd grade during the early 40s we used ink pens to practice our writing skills. They had to be repeatedly dipped in ink and when we finished we used ink blotters to dry them. After we were done, most of the class looked pretty much like Pig.

All the waiters in your grand cafe
