I wonder how much practice Jimmy Olson put into drawing the cats of that story arc. They are very different from his usual toon-like depictings of Ludwig
Here in the north, our state Department of Natural Resources refuses to acknowledge that we have cougars out in the wild. Not a lot of them, but they are there… I’ve seen one run across a back road many years ago, and there was no mistake: long, low, with a lengthy thick tail, and it trotted across that road like a house cat.
Everyone talks about animals encroaching on their property. I have news for you folks. The animals were there LONG before humans were. YOU are encroaching on THEIR territory.
a couple of years ago there was a mountain lion in DOWNTOWN CHICAGO , trapped in a coffee shop . they had nothing to catch it with . they destroyed it ,the thought was it was an escaped pet .but it was a wild one DNA showed that came from dakotas . i was wondering about all the lost pets around the area at the time .
No direct experience, but friends in Michigan’s upper peninsula suggest wearing a pair of sunglasses on your head backwards. Apparently if the cougar thinks you’re facing them, they won’t try to jump you from behind. Personally, I’d wear sunglasses on the back, sides and top of my head… LOL
When I was a teenager, I was always on the lookout for a cougar, but, they really weren’t prevalent in my area, so, I had to settle for girls my own age.

Cougars and cheetahs are the only big cats that meow and purr.

Cougars make hiking fun, since surviving a hike in cougar country becomes a real accomplishment.

The jaguar is bigger than the cougar, and lives as far north as Arizona. The last wild jaguar killed in Texas was taken in 1946.

I used to love hiking in Cougar Country. Loved the Blondes, loved the Brunettes. Now I am far older than a cougar. Adapt, Indeed.

There are still some empty ecological niches to be refilled from the last die-off.
