When our girls got to an age where the computer was needed for school work, we used our tax refund to get them EACH an inexpensive laptop. They are used in the kitchen.
My wife and I used to fight for the modem line (yes we had a second phone line) on “snow days.” We finally got DSL for the cost of dropping the second line. Now we have “real” “high speed” (good enough for our use) internet.
My first use of a modem was in 1985. It was a blazing 1200 baud.
When my kids were younger, we would set a timer for them to use the computer. 3 girls around the ages of 10-12. It wasn’t a problem until they started fighting about when the timer was set. One kid would wake up earlier than the others and be on the computer and when the others woke up, she would then set the timer. Good times. Good times. :|
worked at MCI in the 70’s with ARPANET under NSF. Back then it just connected universities, some libraries and government was the beginning. had to connect via BBN’s
