Then what is with this strange and morbid masks and Face paintings and parades? Is that truly a respectful way to honor the departed. some cultures may not agree.
Here in Ecuador, Día de los Difuntos ( All Souls Day – Nov. 2nd – this Saturday) is celebrated by families visiting the graves of their loved ones, bringing flowers, candles and often cleaning and repainting the gravestones or markers.
There are special foods and drinks served on this day, as well. Colada Morada, a purple corn drink, and Guaguas de Pan, sweet-tasting breads shaped like babies. The guaguas de pans are made from a sweet bread dough, which I find very similar to brioche, and are sometimes stuffed with sweet fillings.
If this goes into some true facts about the Day of the Dead celebration, I will be quite happy to see it. I would love to know a little more about the holiday. The Hispanic coworkers and friends I have don’t celebrate it, or talk about it if they do….

Good thing we in America don’t celebrate Day of the Dead. Believe me, one creepy holiday is enough!
