Lots of nice touches – the lamplight, the happy healthy fox, the rat looking around in true rat fashion, Olwen’s blush, Clover asleep (like every 6yo at midnight mass) on her grudging brother’s shoulder…
So much going on, I just don’t know where to start. To me Morbis looks a little better about putting the money back. Could care less that Offal is upset they were forced to put it back, he’s lucky Olwen didn’t do something much worse to him right when she learned of the theft. Mr. Wigglesworth in a church is rather interesting. Olwen comments to pilot about being himself, and especially about making her proud, really does speak to the fact that she takes more interest in her grandchildren than their folks do. The comment about Peter and Ivan taking after Morbis and Offal seems to suggest Peter is a young Morbis and Ivan (as has already been fairly clear) is a young Offal. And Ivan wrapping an arm around Clover is just so out of character for him, yet just so perfect for the story.
