There is currently some shredded Christmas paper on my sofa, Sammy was “helping” me wrap presents … though he will shred any paper left lying around. Fortunately all the ornaments are non breakable (well not glass anyway)
National Cookie Day. I guess I was a day early on this – I baked cookies on Tuesday. We’re having baked goods at work on Thursday, so I baked chocolate chip cookie and peanut butter cookies to bring to work. I won’t have time to bake today because I have to work.
National Sock Day. Yes, I will be wearing socks today.
National Dice Day
National Package Protection Day. It’s awful how prevalent the package thieves (also known as “porch pirates”) are these days and how brazen they are about stealing your packages.
We no longer put up a tree or do any decorating. (Most of the time, we’re gone at Christmas) so no broken ornaments here. I’ve been wrapping a zillion things for my friends’ two little girls as well as cookie tins from CostCo that we give to businesses around town, and my dining room has looked like an explosion of paper, ribbon and boxes. The cats haven’t bothered any of it. I did put out 2 boxes on the floor and I catch Moose and Blackjack sitting in them. Each year I go to another friends’ house and do all of the bows for her packages and that’s what I did yesterday. Her dining room was a big glitter mess because I use the ribbon from CostCo. Her cats steered clear of it all until I was ready to leave – then they got nosey.
Update on Patches: His new mom sent me a picture last night of them on the bed, on the SAME blanket when she got home from her moms’ house. Last Friedday she did the final paperwork and Patches has his forever home.
A followup to my hasty post yesterday before I left for one of my many doctors appointments. Wood County in WV set up a pension for it’s teachers in 1937 during the depression because there was nothing else. Social Security was just getting started. The working teacher’s contributions paid for the retired teachers pensions. If the money was invested, they must have stopped decades ago and as the number of active teachers paying into the system shrank due to retirements and reduction in force (RIFs), the number of retirees increased. There is 8 years of money left in the system. Sound familiar Social Security recipients? Although the amount of the pension is only $70 per month, the bickering is bad.
Broken glass ornaments freak me out. When my golden retriever puppy knocked a glass ball off the tree with her enthusiastic tail then grabbed it, I almost had a heart attack before I got it away from her. Bless the retriever soft mouth instinct which kept her from chomping down. From that moment, the bottom half of every tree we had was covered in unbreakable ornaments, and the glass ones above were locked on by bending the tree ornament hooks.
Pre-destroyed products? That’s crazy. A cat would rather find something pristine to worry to pieces. I can still have nice things; they just have to be in glass cases.
Thankfully, the store doesn’t sell ugly sweaters for cats to wear. (Cats hate that!) On another note, went to a farm to get a Christmas tree. On the way home, saw some swans in a field.

Pre-destroyed gifts. Not for the kittens, but for the older cats who have done all that and can’t be bothered now.

What’s the fun of picking up pre broken ornaments when the joy is in the breaking ? That’s like eating cat food that has already been through the cat.

Which way to the knocked-over Christmas trees?

Don’t forget the “present” on the rug in front of the fireplace.

Then there are the toppled trees and tangled light sets too.

I haven’t done any wrapping, per se, yet; the gift for my daughter and son-in-law HAS to be wrapped, because it’s too big to bag.
