My therapist once tried a white noise generator in her waiting room. I guess it was supposed to be soothing but since I was working in our microwave center at the time white noise (like an open squelch) was a sign something had gone very wrong with one of the comm systems. Fan whir makes me drowsy, though. What strange brains we have.
Our first irreconcilable difference after 42 years: I like classical music, and she likes PBS/British accents narrating documentaries. Simple answer, separate bedrooms.
flickering yellow light and crackling fire sounds⊠Yes, I have a wood burning stove in my bedroom. In the summer a couple of LED candles work as well.
Using unfinished basement bedroom while kid is visiting. Have to listen to furnace, 3 freezers, water softener recharge, and back up supply for home office fans run full time and loud. Plus the floor creaks when she moves about.
I find it VERY dificult to sleep without my sound machine. I even take it to the hospital when I am unfortunately required to spend less than quality time there.
I have an app on my phone, White Noise, that has a bunch of different sounds: various white noise, train, weather, water, etc. I plug it into my clock radio AUX and drift off to sleep. Iâm an extremely light sleeper. When I was in the hospital, I had it playing through a bluetooth speaker, loudly to drown out the sound from the hallway. I was right outside the nurses station. The night nurse walked in and panicked, asking what the noise was.
I canât sleep in silence. Canât do music because my brain plays/sings along. I kept TV on very low mumble so my brain wouldnât try to make out dialog. I now play âfanâ on Alexaâs âAmbient Soundsâ skill.

Music, low volume. Anything from Bach to Beatles to Billy Joel. Switch to Def Leppard, Govt Mule, Colin James, etc during the day.

At 72 years old and male I would find the sound of flowing water to be way too much of an inspiration for another visit to the bathroom.

I canât sleep if itâs quiet. I usually have the fan on unless itâs really cold; then I use my sound machine on white noise.

I use heavy rain, or trains. I grew up near railroad tracks, so I find that soothing.
