As they live in Detroit, it might be a shot at the miserable season the Red Wings are having (12 wins in 50 games, a goal-difference of -88, and dead last in the 31-team National Hockey League). So even though the Detroit newspapers are no doubt still covering the Dead Things (who are currently on a five-game losing streak), casual sports fans like this kid have stopped reading about them.
Neat strip. When people try to strike up a conversation with: “I read that…”, my first response is often : “Where did you read that”, and that tends to put people off. I know I could be more tactful, but they could also chose not to use bulls*#t as an ice breaker and talk about the weather instead.
No, probably articles like https://www.bbc.com/news/world-49284389. I think he’s just saying that it must have been back in the summer because once fall starts, all sports stories are about football and hockey.
What’s the connection between ultradistance events and hockey? If it just means that he read the article back in summer, so what? Why would that tie him up in knots and totally confuse him?
Our oldest niece was an ultramarathon runner. Well, she still is, but for recreation now rather than competition, any longer. Even now her favorite distance is about 40 miles for recreational running when she wants to relax, though she is a mother and wife, and an oncology nurse who is working her way through a nurse practitioner degree right now so training for marathons does not exactly fit in her schedule.
Whoo! That was close. Or was it? I take comfort in being pretty sure that for every person bothered by my near-acknowledgement of the existence of testicles, someone else will be upset by my near- and eventual acknowledgement that women just might be better at some things than men. And at least one of those groups really needs to have their basket upset.

If you can’t even get to the end of the thought, you’ll never go the distance.

What do they mean by “better”? Men’s time are generally faster in ultramarathons.

?? Frazz needs to have a written explanation of the “joke”. It is almost never funny or even understandable.
