The most effective treatment for hairballs is electric clippers. Weekly. The side effects include bite marks, scratches, kitty-poo in your shoes and several less pleasant things.
My wife is a nurse, whenever she or I are prescribed a medication which is new to us, she goes on line and downloads the “fact sheet” on the drug. One medication had 10 pages of side effects. Fortunately, death was not among them.
Drug companies must list every possible side effect noticed in trials even if only one in 10,000 people might show symptoms of it.
Seriously, it’s as if the brainiacs developing these drugs are incapable of creating something that doesn’t have the potential of making your specific condition worse and/or harming you in a myriad of other ways, if not killing you. WTH?

If it’s a pill, then no problem. The cat will never take it. But you may need some serious medical help if you try to force it on them.
