Rocks are not unscathed by Winter weather. Water gets into microscopic cracks/crevices and the continuous freezing/thawing causes exfoliation of outer surfaces, and perhaps even severe cleaving of the rock itself.
If the flower is a perennial, it does a pretty amazing thing by surviving the harshest of winters and coming back to display it’s beauty again in the spring, year after year.
Flowering plants are predated by bees so for at least 70 million years bees had to make do with other things until they cam along. Flowering plants are exposing their genitals as part of the symbiosis they have with other animals from bats to wasps to bees to hummingbirds.
