Now let’s visualize an 85 year old Calvin in 1st grade.

Ahem. Calvin is now 34 years old and STILL in first grade.

Most of the people who think they hate math really don’t mind math. What they hate is learning math. That and word problems.

Some of the fun things in math were not learned in school.

Actually he’s been in first grade almost that long. Ironic, eh?

Don’t blame poor Cal. Math is many a child’s nightmare.

Hobbes helping Calvin with math is like the blind leading the blind! Good luck with that, kid!

Do you actually think that you’d be able to put Hobbes in traction, Calvin?

I liked math. I got it. It is logical. I could figure it out. No rote memorization required (once you got the addition and multiplication tables mastered), No boring, long-winded texts to read. I didn’t have to “study” for it.

I could not say the same about the other subjects I was forced to study.

You know, I do work with computers and I haven’t used math for more than my checkbook in a long time. I mean I had to learn Boolean and all that, but it wasn’t really ‘math’. Still, I suppose knowing what a hypotenuse is may have come in handy. Once. Possibly.

Visualize being a 45 year old union cook making good money, RSP/401k, health benefits payed sick days, while your 45 year old buddy with a collage degree drives cab.

My my, they’re clamping down on ol’ Cal now aren’t they.

Weren’t there some strips that showed Calvin being left handed?

Math is my easiest subject in school. It’s the most straightforward.

I’ve actually seen 45 year olds that made that same decision. They generally appear on TV game shows, leading to comments in our house like “how could he/she be so dumb?”.

Calvin has no clue how old 45 really is. Dad looks to be late 30s, maybe.

Dad’s attitude may be a little heavy. But he’s got the right idea.

“I’m really a visual person.” Every art major in college says that, including me.

In later grades, I loved the theoretical maths, particularly geometry. With a creative more than analytical brain, I wasn’t exactly great at them, but I kept a B average.

Q: How many mathematicians does it take to change a light bulb?

A: That’s left as an exercise for the reader…

Curious to know how the 45 year old Calvin will look. Will the elusive red haired girl be part of the middle aged calvin?

He would be better off getting help in multiplication from Mr. Bun.

Not sure if Hobbes is the best choice for this.
