captain: What?? the new superman is british?!? captain: this is an outrage!! superman should be american!! I would never let a british actor play me on screen!! ralston: but you would let david hasselhoff, right? captain: let him? I'd beg him!!
We already have a Welshman playing Batman, and the new Spider-Man is British too. But just try to even consider an American playing James Bond or the Doctor…
Other than Johnny Depp, I’m hard-pressed to think of an American actor who can convincingly play someone of another ethnicity or culture – the Brits have ‘em falling out of the woodwork.

Joe Shuster was born in Toronto (a fact DC seems to try to play down) and was the cousin of comic Frank Shuster of Wayne and Shuster.
Jerry Seigel was born in Cleveland. Joe Shuster’s family moved to Cleveland and that’s where the two met, in high school.

Superman was declared a U.S. citizen because he was technically born in the U.S., even though the egg– er, ship– er, womb was artificial.
