So you can sue the bus company when they have an accident. Have you ever seen the videos of what happens to the kids in a bus accident!!!

Sorta funny, but sorta not. Baffles me. Illegal for a kid to be in a car not restrained, all of a sudden they get on a bus and it’s fine. Crazy.

The school buses in my city have all had seat belts for more than ten years.

First, the kids won’t like it. Second, it’s just one more headache for the driver to enforce. Third, it’s expensive. Fourth, parents don’t want to pay for it and since they don’t actually see their children riding in the bus they can ignore the issue and learn not to worry. Last, schools don’t actually care about your kids; they just care about what will happen if they do something wrong. Even though they sense that kids can be hurt in a bus accident, it doesn’t happen often enough to make them worry that much and the cost of the liability insurance is way less than the cost of the seat belts.

because, unfortunately, the school systems can’t afford to have them installed.

Mainly because they aren’t needed according to the NHTSA.

That would be because the insurance companies haven’t been hit by big bills by bus accidents.

There are many states that are passing laws mandating seat belts in buses. It’s only a matter of time before all 50 states have them.

Well for one, my seat cutter only cuts three to fours belts before getting too dull. Pick which kid I save.

I have often wondered about this myself. The answers hear are heartbreaking. Some adult buses have seatbelts. Ironically.

Overall, a school bus is a much safer way to travel than standard auto. Injuries are generally less severe due to the bus design. I have driven a bus for almost 20 years and was rear ended by a 2 ton truck once. I have also been a medical first responder and firefighter for over 25 years and have worked several automobile accidents.

The idea of having to unbuckle a bus full of 5-10 year old kids who are panicking because of an accident is pretty scary in it’s own right.

Aw, come on. You KNOW why seatbelts are not viable on a school bus. Stop trying to score points for being “socially aware”……
