Ignore the guilty look from your wife, John. That baby will be up in a few hours and you will be glad you got whatever little sleep you did. However, if you are going to stay up, maybe change the sheets.

Elly is exhausted from the birth but too excited to sleep. She has a brand new daughter sleeping next to her, the baby she carried for 9 months that now she can see and hold. John is the guy and does what guys do. Like, yep, the baby is here and she is tiny and adorable. Elly and baby are fine and safe. Okay, time to sleep. I’ll spend time with the baby tomorrow.

That soft pink little alarm clock will make you both tired enough, soon enough. I wish I had one.

Not all guys are like John. My wife had ours at the hospital. First night home, she slept all night while I slept on the couch (I didn’t really sleep) with the baby laying on my chest while the grandfather clock pendulum swung back and forth. All night long. Tick Tock, Tick Tock.Never mind this “fathers don’t care” bit. We always do, always did. When home we do as much to help with the baby as we can. My wife could not change poopy diapers, she had a weak stomach, so I did it. No big deal, it is a part of life.

After my first was born, they insisted I take a sleeping pill. It did not work and I was awake all night. I think it actually kept me from sleeping. They wanted me to take one the second night too, but I refused, and slept well. They tried to make me take one after my second child was born and I refused again. I slept well even on the first night. This all happened back in the 60s when women stayed in the hospital for at least 3 days. Longer, if there had been a problem birth.

It makes perfect sense. People who are trying desperately to a crisis that they assume is going badly expend a lot more psychic energy than those who are already on point. Anxiety demands more than adaptation does.

Any women here remember what happens to your body AFTER giving birth? The placenta, the bleeding for 3 days straight, the other items that come out while giving birth. No way in hell would I want that in my house.

Wouldn’t they take mom and baby to the hospital just to make sure they are both fine? Most women need a little medical assistance after a birth, getting sewn up.

If anyone wants to know what happened to “something like Temple” (I won’t use his real screen name because messages about him are being taken down by GC.), he’s been black listed by GC. All of his past posts have disappeared. He can post things, which he’s doing, but no one else can see them unless you visit his profile page. As far as I can tell, he hasn’t yet figured out that he’s been banned. Here’s hoping that this gets past the censors. I will post this again as soon as the comics update tonight so the early birds will see it too.

I do hope they have replaced the mattress. Giving birth can be a bit… messy.

Come on Elly – tell John not to get too comfortable because he has the night shift for the rest of the evening so you can try to rest.
