And yet, if Fiona was an attractive character, there is nothing she is saying that implies she won’t help out. She’s just not a “stay up all night” kind of helper. When we had newborns and grandparents came over to help out, they didn’t come and stay the night. They helped out during the day time.
As proof of Fiona’s independence, she has managed to score a cookie and coffee off Elly without any effort on Elly’s part. Already Fiona has figured out the only things you actually eat in Elly’s house that won’t make you sick with nausea.
Yeah, she wakes up at noon; doubtless, it may take her an hour or two to get up, get herself motivated to actually stir & get out of bed. Then she’ll have to have someone else fix her breakfast (HA!), feed part of it to that mangy moggy (cat with no pedigree), then complain about having a delicate back (Dr. Smith?) & “need” to go back to bed with instructions to have someone bring her lunch & quite possibly dinner in her room! AND a parting shot would be if she said something like, “I hope that kid doesn’t cry all night and keep me awake.”
She’s wonderful. It wasn’t until my second time reading all the comics all the way through that she (spoilers) basically took advantage of this family for a week.
Is everyone this polite like Elly is? (or as dumb) I would have a heart-to-heart and tell the woman just what is expected of her and why she was here in MY house. I know I would.
She would have been set straight by now. Of course, first she would be in whatever guest quarters I had arranged or she could go to a hotel. No strange pets in the house, my animals live in my house (3 cats currently), you are only a visitor. My house, my rules. I prefer to stay at hotels when visiting family.
Fiona is someone I would have no problem with “social-distancing”. Six feet, eight feet, ten feet — not enough. And, dear God, if anyone should wear a mask … We have all known people like Fiona and have dealt with them in our own way. She is just another story line in the strip, perplexing as it is. This too shall end.
