My fridge has problems and the home insurance company has determined that parts are not available. After that, dead silence. And there is no way to inquire about the status.
Mum was a dreadful driver. One pedal or the other on the floor. My brother-in-law said she didn’t drive, she lurched. As a result, her auto premiums where horrible – more than people pay for a teenaged boy. One day she called us and told us to come get the car. She’d added up what she’d paid in premiums and it was more than she’d paid for the car. So I told them I’d paid them plenty, and I wasn’t sending them anything else. And do you know what they did? They cancelled my insurance!"
Actually, she had a point, but we got a free van out of it.
When I lost my car to a carjacking, I have to say my insurance company did fantastic by me. They made me wait 90 days to see if the car was found, but when that time was up, they paid me 15% more than I paid for the car, because that was what the replacement value was. They also covered my rental fees for the 3 months. I mentioned this a few days ago, but the car was recovered by the Highway Patrol just after the 90 day hold. The Patrolman who contacted me was so excited, telling me I made out, since the thief put in an expensive stereo system, and had $4k in expensive tools in the trunk. I told him no, that it belonged to Allstate now. I hope Allstate was able to recoup the costs with it, I can’t say anything bad about the service I had. Yes, I still have Allstate, no, I didn’t mean for this to be an ad for them.
Ah, voice prompts. Up until last year or the year before, I had a long distance service (shall remain nameless for reasons of liability, but think Ma Bell). It was attached to my old landline (which I’ve also since cancelled). They were charging me $25 a month for a service I never used anymore, so i tried to cancel. Their web site wouldn’t allow it; they said in order to cancel I’d have to call their service number and speak to a representative — to protect me, of course. So i called their service, went through the menu, got to the cancel option, and it told me to go the web site. And then hung up on me. I tried a bunch of different options, none of which worked — one of them even told me to call the number I had just dialed! Finally I tried the one option guaranteed to bring me to a human – sign up for a new service. At last — a person! They were able to delete the service, but only after giving me a hard sell to stay with the company. I told them after what I just went through they were lucky I didn’t send them a bill for my wasted time.
TL;DR I had to disconnect a long distance service by trying to sign up for a new service.

What’s the name of their insurance company, or does it really matter?

They are always very quick to collect their premiums, but trying to get a claim filed is akin to pulling teeth. :P

I will NOT comment on insurance company bashing. Try bashing personal injury lawyers. lol

With a $500 deductible, they’re wasting their time on an old ignition lock anyway. Just get it fixed.

Try this with your homeowners insurance. Canceled!
