Of course there is a better way! Play a sport! Ride a bike (outdoors), play tennis, skate, take up ballroom dancing…. many, many ways. I do not like formal gyms. Give me sports any day.
One of the worst days of my life was when I realized that ONLY decent eating AND exercise would work. Smaller portions and spurts of walking. . .can hardly wait until I get my second hip operation. . .
Steamed vegetables? Which steamed vegetables? Some are delicious – though not delicious enough to substitute for rather than complement the main dish, I admit.
If you actually work out at the gym 3-4 days a week, your body will get used to the energy level, raising your base metabolism. You will lose weight from that. And while you’re losing the fat, you’ll also be gaining muscle. A generally good idea, if you have the will power to keep up with it.

I miss going to the gym. Swimming and the steam room were my favorite thing to do until lately.

I’d say what you eat is 75% of the equation. A single can of Coke is 150 calories. How long does it take to work that off?

Buying a stationary bike and weights would save you loads of gym fee money. I have them!

Don’t bring me side dishes and call it a meal. There has to be meat to call it a meal.
