Panel 3 is evidence of what I’ve said all along. Hobbes is a figment of Calvin’s imagination and Calvin supplies both the thoughts and speeches for the tiger.
Panel 3 is evidence of what I’ve said all along. Hobbes is a figment of Calvin’s imagination and Calvin supplies both the thoughts and speeches for the tiger.
I originally thought so too but it doesn’t explain how Hobbs can tell things to Calvin that Calvin doesn’t already know
I don’t see that about panel three. I still think there are two complementary views of the world: Calvin’s and everybody else’s–and the two are never definitively separated, nor is one shown to be wrong.
My imaginary alter ego tells me things I don’t know all the time… and he’s definitely Hobbes to my Calvin…
Hobbes (the Poster), I’m thinking a lot of our real-life peers need to talk to some of Calvin’s real-life peers, the ENFPs of the world. This is how a lot of us ENFPs live. :))
Imaginary friends are only real to the person imagining them. Unless, perhaps, they exist in another dimension that is only perceptible to “special” people. (I don’t believe the latter scenario.)
I knew a horse owner who was on permanent disability. Turns out that one day he went “crazy” and couldn’t work effectively. His affliction was that he claimed he could “Talk to God”. And I mean “Talk” as in real two-way conversations.
One day, I heard voices coming from his horse’s stall, and quietly stepped into the empty stall next to him. He proceeded to carry on a heated argument with God (I assume), but I could only hear his side of the conversation.
Then I carefully stepped out of the stall, and noisily pretended to approach the stall. All “conversation” ceased, and he spoke to me as if nothing had been going on.
It was very strange to witness.
The farm manager said that the owner confided in him one day saying that, “God spoke to him through his horse”.
This scenario sounds almost identical to the scene we see played out over and over in this strip. Calvin’s insights from Hobbes is either coming from his alter-ego, or Calvin is perceiving things we normal people cannot.
So, is Calvin’s buddy, Hobbes real? He is to Calvin.
Did the horse owner really converse with God? Doubtful, since he claimed that God (through his horse) promised him 3 million dollars, which he was still waiting for. :-/
Hobbes, thanks for the links, they were very apropos.
Centaur, Brooke stopped the comments from appearing as he didn’t like them and couldn’t handle any discussion of his strips. He did the same thing with 9 Chickweed Lane. Check out the blog spot on this site, it should explain it.
Just like Peter Pan, I believe…… (clap, clap, clap.)
Lin 4869, do you remember the title of the Francis the Talking Mule movie? I’ve got that set on DVD as well as the Mister Ed series. In those movies, Francis (with an “i”) always eventually talked to other people.
In the Mister Ed episodes, Wilbur’s neighbor, Roger actually witnessed Mister Ed speaking to Wilbur. Wilbur finally managed to convince him it was ventriloquism.

Susie is the common enemy to unite the warring partners! And I really think Suzie has a crush on Calvin. And Calvin has his secret crush on Suzie!

I highly doubt that Susie “stumbled” on Calvin’s treefort purely by accident. She is up to something!

As today’s strip begins, things have taken a violent turn.
Clubs and violence are often closely linked. Here are two additional examples in the comics:
February 23, 1971
December 4, 2010

Finest strip on earth. I’m just sorry GoComics arbritrarily chose to include “Jim’s Journal” with my daily C&H.
Pairing that mediocre strip with C&H is like putting ketchup on filet mignon!

Harvey was real to Elwood P Dowd …
By the end of the play he became real to several other characters, as well.
Hobbes is real to all those who have the imagination to believe.
