My Murphy has a bed next to mine where he happily snores the night away unless it storms out. Then he’s up on the bed in the same position Rover is. But I don’t know that he’s smiling.
I was working on a farm one summer. They had a dog that was unfriendly, to put it mildly. One day we were forced indoors because of a thunderstorm and the dog took refuge under my chair. I reached down and scratched his ears to calm him and we were friends for the rest of the time I was there.
Question, anyone notice a difference between dog genders? My male Bassett hated thunder and fireworks, the female ignored thunder and didn’t mind fireworks (mostly). My kid has had 2 large males over the decades, both hated fireworks and thunder.(We love both)
My last 2 Labs, I’ve taken them out on the front porch and sat down with them during a thunderstorm. Neither were/are bothered by it. Now if I could only figure out a way to make them comfortable around vacuum cleaners…
In my childhood, one of our dogs was terrified of thunderstorms, and she passed that fear to each new dog who passed it along to the next. The trained-fear chain wasn’t broken until we went dogless for a while.
My golden retriever was just a few weeks old when Hurricane Hugo hit our area and left it looking like a nuclear bomb went off. Until the day she died, she was terrified of high winds, but only high winds that could be heard within the house. She’d happily walk in a gale, otherwise.
Had a bird hunting Lab who never had issues with loud noises, except for thunder. He always sought refuge on my head in the bed. Otherwise he was a great dog

Wow, Rover is brave. A lot of dogs would be hiding under the bed!

I wish my pup could be cool, calm and collected during stormy weather, just like Rover!
