Happy Father’s Day to you too, Frank. (My father had glasses since I think middle school; myself since a few years after graduating high school.)

Standing right here, hearing every word you say.

And below the comments, it is clear that Ann Eiffel is poised to become the star of this strip!

Happy Father’s Day to my hubby! When I met him, he wore glasses. Now he doesn’t, thanks to cataract surgery. He has such thick, luxuriant hair and lovely muscles. How on earth did I get so blessed?

So, Frank went from Justin Trudeau to John Oliver?

“Well, he has a paycheck… And a couple of good kids, so I guess I’ll keep him.”

I kind of expected Frank’s face to look like Greg’s in the 3rd frame…

Why does adding hair and muscles change the shape of your nose?

Apparently, his nose also had a different shape.

And this is why it’s important to sow your oats before settling down (as Nancy didn’t). Don’t get married to the person you intend to lose your virginity to. Get the sex over with so it doesn’t cloud your judgement.

I went back to the beginning of the strip and didn’t see hair and muscles. No explanation on sudden transformation of Frank to a balding old man. That version of Frank must be a gag.

Nancy has always been a fan of Frank’s extremely long nose…

Funny, all the old images of Frank Greg depicts him as a hippie with long hair.

His nose became increasingly rounder as he got older, too. (Personally, my cheeks have become increasingly more gaunt. Aging is fun!) Happy Father’s Day!

I’m not an authority on genetics or anything, but has anyone ever commented on why Luann is a blonde, if both of her parents are brunettes?

The truth hurts (but not for long).

Being mediocre from the start has its advantages.

A few more years and Frank will need help opening the refrigerator. Enjoy it while you can!

“Hair, Muscles.” In a couple of ways, from Luann’s questioning, to Nancy’s confirmation, to Frank’s self image. It all reminds Me of Jack. Looks like the Big Lug still has a shot provided he gets off his arse and makes a “move.”

On the flip side, “Everyman” slightly Nerdy Frank, ended up a lovable, adorable, very attractive, sensible wife, which mean that there is still a H3LLUVA hope for Gunther. ;)

Gunther, and Les? Guys who’s fathers are M.I.A? May you rise to the level one day, overcome adversity and become good fathers.

He gave you two beautiful children, a home, and food for all of you, and has come back to that home every night. So far …

Bet Nancy was a looker as well.

Frank was a stud, and it shows in Nancy’s eyes.

So why does Brad look like he does?

“No, wait … that was the man I was with before I met your father.”

So, Luann is only gonna appear on Sundays for a while?

“Nope, your dad really doesn’t have anything to offer me anymore. That’s why I’ve been having an affair with TJ ever since we opened The Fuse. Ooops! Did I just say too much here?!?”

Is this what Frank thinks he looked like or Nancy’s memory of him? Why didn’t Luann just look at a picture?

But he’s always been a father figure here in the Luanniverse, and will always be. Happy Father’s day, all!

Hasn’t Luann seen photos of her parents when they were young? My dad was a stud when he was young! He’s been gone now for 12 years. I miss him still, always will.

Happy Father’s Day one and all. Some fathers maybe down to their ‘other qualities’ by now; but those are the qualities that make them good fathers. (And thank you, Evans, for giving us a break from that dark storyline you were on in the dailies.)

This is a model of the future for Luann I think, and for Gunther. For Luann the resemblance to Jack in the muscular phase of Nancy’s description of a younger Frank. As for Gunther to extremely hot Bets, love at first sight girl, who is so attached to Gunther, and he to her. She has her faults,, who doesn’t? But she does so much for Gunther in terms of confidence, fun, purpose, and she is as smart as he is, and would be the person who would focus him to be the successful millionaire entrepreneur, or high level academic, he is meant to be. Both women would be good moms too. That is my take and I’m sticking to it.

Hopefully Luann is playfully teasing.

Nancy hasn’t exactly escaped glasses. In many strips when she is doing bookkeeping or reading, she is wearing glasses. Greg conveniently left them off her today.

Even on Father’s day Frank gets dumped on.

Come on Nancy take easy on Frank for Father’s Day.

You know I still don’t get why people don’t get this can be a funny strip. Greg could be a comedy writer, and today is classic joke format—set-up, exposition, punch line. Other times it’s Lu and her craziness, and drama queen Tiffany. I mean there is wry comedy, and quick quips, and situational arcs. So I will never back up from declaring “hilarity ensues” because that is both an adjectival and verb phrase, thus very apt.

Thank goodness for “other qualities,” or all of us Old Farts would be Socially Expendable—as in Logan’s Run or Soylent Green….

it can work out that way my mom for example is still married to my father, also it’s actually nice to not see a joke about her messy room for a change
