It was 79 years ago today that the international financier, John H. Waldorf’s son, Buddy, was kidnapped from their home.
Nine days later the son was found safe, thanks to the efforts of DT.
LudwigVonDrake, some of what we’ve seen has been the reset process. The era of Insane Clown Logic has ended. We’ve seen the basics of the new era. The detectives act like detectives, and the shady characters have shown that they don’t have enough sense to come out of the sun. Evidently two crimes are in the works, and it’s going to be interesting to see how this arc differs from its earlier form on the Plainclothes site.
Part of the action involves talking about what will happen. It’s like MST3K without the snarking.
It’s amazing how this story is progessing. Each day presents a new chapter, with very little repetition until the Sunday strip.
Questions: Anyone here from Tennessee ? Does your paper carry DT ? I’m close to Nashville, and have written several letters, requesting the inclusion of DT; no luck so far. Anybody know the name of any paper carrying DT ?
I was wondering how long it would take before Fifth reanacted his revenge on Lizz for Halfa’s demise. Failed in his first attempt, but here we go again!
To Bill Thompson
Per the remark on on the shady characters not having enough sense to come in out of the sun.
As the bio says, I used to be in law enforcement. I am sure there are smart criminals, but I never met any. As an example, one night a fellow was arrested and taken to jail for some reason or another. His little brother heard about it (his little brother outweighed his sibling by around 200 pounds) and decided to go check on his brother in jail. To him, the fastest was to go to jail was to go hit a cop. He went to jail. It did take six of us to subdue him once he got there though.
I agree with “Lady Cop”! And the Yankton Press and Dakotan carries the dailies without the Sunday strip as well. That said I offer a belated thank you to young Mr. Curtis for making this strip readable again!
Now, that explains a good deal. Mike Curtis was in law enforcement so he knows how it’s supposed to work– and the results show. I doubt that Locher had much more real experience than you get when you’re pulled over for speeding.
Oh, well… Like I said earlier, my potential as a successful Dick Tracy criminal ended when DL retired. I could have stolen the TV out of the officer’s break room then and nobody would have noticed. Now we’ve got professionals so it wouldn’t work now.
Either the colorist goofed or the Fifth is paler than we first thought. Either way you couldn’t notice considering all you see of him is his lower jaw, whenever the cigar smoke isn’t in the way.
But really this is just to advance the story, but I’m not complaining.
Keep it coming.
Since, despite my best efforts, I can’t seem to post there, could someone pass
along a couple of comments from me (with attribution).
First, thank DetectiveDanDone for his kind comments about my book, JUST THE
FACTS - TRUE TALES OF COPS & CRIMINALS.
Second, regarding the current controversy on why Lizz is still single, remind
the group that she is twice-widowed, and she lost at least one of her husbands
to violence, which is likely to make her a little gunshy about taking a third
trip to the altar.
This is moving along so nicely. The dialogue, the pacing the characters all fit together like a glove.
I love the coloring and i love to see Sam smoking!
I’ve never been in law enforcement, but I’ve met a few dumb criminals. The dumbest I knew were three overaged juvenile delinquents. They liked to make firecrackers out of black powder. The bigger, the better. One night they made a firecracker out of a five pound bag of black powder, took it to a construction site and blew the bleeep out of a port-a-potty. They didn’t see the local cop who witnessed it until he had pulled his gun on them. They got busted as adults. I saw them before their trial, while they rehearsed their testimony. Stooge #1: “We didn’t do anything!” Stooge #2: “We didn’t do anything!” Stooge #3: “We didn’t do anything–and you made the fuse too short!” I wish I could have seen their trial.

Why would anybody use a tanning salon? Seems like a prescription for prematurely aged skin to me.

How could a tanning bed remove Fly-face’s stench?
brinrik over 13 years ago
Excellent as always but it seems to me that the phrase “dame cop” or “dame copper” would fit the gangster style of Fifth better than “lady cop”.

What really has happened since Locher left? The artwork is outstanding but what action has taken place??

I wonder if they have to pay the 10% excise tax in this tanning salon?
gatorland5 over 13 years ago
In their first encounter way back when, the 5th tried to give Lizz the ultimate tan by way of a giant magnifying glass. Now we have a tanning bed hmm…

The Memphis paper does not carry DT. Even if they did, the artwork is now too detailed to be seen at the size they print their strips in.

For the record - the Houston Chronicle carries the Dick Tracy daily strips. No Sundays !
