Meanwhile, in Canada, they have passed a law banning military grade assault weapons.

All the guns in the hands of US citizens make this a very dangerous county for everyone, the police included…. We need to step back from the hyper militarization on all sides because where we’re heading is a nightmare waiting to happen (or already happening)

Just because someone buys a gun doesn’t mean they know how to use it properly.

But, but, the NRA says almost all gun owners are responsible and law abiding. Are you saying they’re not?

I know if I lived in inner city Chicago, in Chicago, 254 people have been killed this year, that is 16 more than 2019, I would definitely own a gun. Baltimore is another dangerous place, as of June 1st, there have been 134 homicides in the city in 2020, six more than at the same time in 2019. So you definitely need protection. Hell they are calling for getting rid of the police, wonder what that would do to the numbers. In CHOP Seattle it didn’t take long for two people to get killed, one child to get shot and over 50 robberies to occur in that little area.

Defund does not mean what you think it means. I think Demilitarize the police would be a better word. Police only need tanks if they are planning on fighting our military.

I can see how the term “defund” may lead to some pretty extreme interpretations. But activists are sick of treading lightly. And while some do want to abolish police entirely, their opinions are nowhere near those of the cooler-headed majority. When the city neighboring ours incorporated in the 70s, they “defunded” their police force. Or rather they never even set one up, and instead continued to depend on the county Sheriff’s department for law enforcement, while funding social workers and other specialists to address all the non-criminal cases that police officers were never trained to deal with in the first place. And it works well, as they take pride in being “family-oriented, safe, and prosperous.” Granted, the more entrenched a city’s police department is, the longer it’s going to take to make the necessary adjustments. The best kind of change is never easy, but when we persevere it’s always worth the effort.
