    When I hear the word credit, it makes me think this: Cha-Ching!

    C’mon Snoopy, we know you can be a credit to your breed. Just tail it, err, that is nail it!

    So, it’s a one-run game, much closer than usual for Charlie Brown’s team.

    Younger readers will not understand to what Schulz was alluding with Snoopy’s comment.

    This would make more sense if we were talking about tying Roger Maris’ record for home runs in a single season. But since we’re talking about the record for career home runs, can’t he just tie/break the record next season even if he strikes out here?

    Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,

    The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;

    And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,

    But there is no joy in Peanutsville—mighty Snoopy has struck out.

    (Just a prediction — I don’t actually remember this arc.)

    Readers under 50 may need to research the phrase “a credit to his race.” It’s a back handed compliment to a “good” African American. Schultz was not at all subtle with this week’s strip. God bless Schultz. Younger people also may not know that many whites were angry with the idea of a Black man breaking the record in 1973.
