    You can tell if a person is smiling when they are wearing a mask. You canā€™t do a good smile without involving your whole face.

    On the other hand, you canā€™t tell when someone is sticking their tongue out at you.

    Sometimes this is a very good idea. I have a ā€œgrandnieceā€ who is a brilliant kid but autistic who completely freaks if anybody in her family wears a mask. She has enough trouble ā€œreadingā€ facial expressions and body language under normal conditions. It isnā€™t much, but even a ā€œsmiley faceā€ helps a little bit.
