Janice is quite correct. They grow undergound, on something like a root of small plants.

Remember that great beer commercial, for Rainier Ale I believe?Fat slob on the couch watching the game: “Mabel, bring me another beer!”Hard working petite woman in the kitchen stops, rolls her eyes, sighs, and sticks her head out of the kitchen; “Get it yourself, Fred!!”This is Janis’s civilized equivalent.

Is Arlo going to start singing and dancing in their gazebo?

A good wife-server always checks her table at reasonable intervals. No tip for Janis (DO NOT go there guys).

Maybe it’s just my inner Pollyanna…

But I took it that he was requesting the pleasure of her company…

not signalling the “wait staff” for a refill.

Janis is pulling up a chair, not handing him the glass.

BTW … we seem to be back to 2020.

Hope that brings a collective sigh of relief to those who were worried…

though it’s a Sunday, and of course, those aren’t really conclusive. :)

She’s absolutely right, peanuts grow in the dirt.

LAZY with a capital L. What’s the message, by the way? “Come out and join me?” or “Bring me another drink?”

Peanuts grow underground from runners sent out from the mother plant.

Where are the Arlo and Janis who loved each other and showed it? You never see that here any more. Janis is always grumpy now. She is a stick-in-the-mud. No fun at all.

This is a gem of a comic strip. Jimmy J has visually captured the motion of aiming and tossing. The target of the toss (kitchen window) and the objective of the toss (Janis’ attention) in a sequence of perfectly arraigned panels.

To Arlo life’s a game. The pebbles (peanuts) against the window to gain your lover’s attention is a classic plot device. Janis gets the hint and arrives with her own refreshment. This results the desires major smile of pleasure and delight from hubby. Janis also arrives with her own refreshment negating any hint of loutish “bring me another beer” behavior.

Finally, Janis enters the scene with a clever entendre.

BTW Arlo isn’t “wasting” the pernuts! See how carefully he’s aiming between tosses! 8^ )

No, Janis. Cocktail peanuts grow on small bushy plants. Makes them easier to pick.

My Father In Law used to have a small store where the “City Folk & Yankee Folks” would stop as they headed to the beaches. He grew a few rows of cotton and peanuts. He allowed people to go out and take pictures of them picking cotton and trying to pick peanuts. Most of them complained all the peanuts had been picked off the plant. They did not know you had to pull up the vine and pick them off.

I found this amusing in a different way. My mother and I used to live next door to each other. We were both night owls. If I saw the light on in her bedroom (mom and dad slept in separate rooms), and my husband was asleep or working night shift, I would go outside and pick up a pebble and throw it at her bedroom window. She would go and unlock her front door and we could then have a cup of tea and chat. I miss living next door. We are now 60 miles apart.
