I once arrived at a diner just as a grackle perched in the scruffy little orange tree out front and started — well, I guess you could call it “singing”, although no grackle is capable of making any sound you or I would call musical.
But his performance seemed to go on for ages. I don’t speak bird, but I could tell that certain phrases were getting repeated in different combinations, so I figure I was hearing the whole story of his life and aspirations.
Took me ten minutes before I could tear myself away from listening and go inside for my breakfast.
the restaurant at the Harbor in Santa Barbara has grackles out – they’re very talkative and entertaining. Hoping the green herons are still safely nesting/roosting outside of the Best Western too.

And on that note. The rest of the day will take flight in a song of joy.

Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life.

Must be a housewife bird – we never get a day off.
