Tonto and kemosabe. Silver and the William Tell Overture. Radio static every time the well pump turned on. Mom giving me a bowl of popcorn with war time margarine on it as we listened to ’"The Lone Ranger" together.
The “Adventures of Superman” was only broadcast in our area early in the morning. I used to watch it while waiting for my ride to school. That program was followed by “Amos & Andy”. Us kids rarely commented about the Superman show, but we were all hip to who Kingfish, Sapphire, & Ramona were. Odd, eh?
Does that mean that fake men DON’T wear masks? Heh, reminds me of a commercial, “Beef: Real food for real people”. Doe that mean that broccoli is fake food for fake people? :D :D :D
Remember listing to the Green Hornet, Lone Ranger and others on the big console radio in the living room. When we got TV, watched the Saturday morning westerns – Lone Ranger, Hop Along Cassidy, Sky King, Rin Tin Tin, etc. I’d get so engrossed that I didn’t notice the lines on the screen or the flickers when mom would turn on the dryer or the vacuum cleaner.
“real men” seriously??? oh MY EYES MY EYES MY EYES – come on 1st American type buddy let’s go!!!!!surprised that cancel culture hasn’t taken on the “lone ranger” and his Indian sidekick who wore buckskin and a sixgun instead of using bow and arrow and called the ranger (old day police officer) kemosabe which meant white guy with stetson (I made that last part up) just read the very latest “mask” information and what some of those “protective” masks are really doing to us and others.

in my childhood’s case, it’d be Darkwing Duck as well as Batman: The Animated Series … those were the days, the early 1990s

Let us not forget the Durango Kid! Or the few (and much more obscure) Western heroes whose masks actually covered their mouths and noses:

And, the only one of this latter group really worth remembering:

But HIS mask covered his eyes, not his breathing apparatus.
