Why do we anthropomorphize nature, but not other aspects of life?
Why not talk about Father Economy? When you get laid off : “oh, but that’s just Father Economy’s way of saying that you need a change in your life”Or when you get a raise: “See, Father Economy loves all his children”
or Uncle Politics. When your preferred candidate gets elected: “ah yes, isn’t it wonderful how Uncle Politics always make sure that everything turns out as it should be?” Or when the wrong candidate gets elected: “but that’s not how Uncle Politics intended it to be! You must stop voting for this party because you are killing our beloved Uncle Politics!”
I was cleaning my deceased parents’ house. My mother had always use old vacuum-only (no carpet beater rolls) Electrolux cleaners because my father had sold them after WWII. I was using a new modern bagless carpet cleaner (large fish brand). In every room, I filled the bin at least once with old fine dust and dirt those old vacuum cleaners never got out. 40 years of the stuff.
We’ve heard this aphorism for ages, but it’s very much parochial to people living in the bottom of a gravity well. The fact is that 99.99999% of nature IS a vacuum!

But hated the old Rainbow vacuum cleaner, as did my cat as soon as she heard it.

I pictured MN to be a beautiful goddess, with a crown of flowers, bees flying round them and animals following in her footsteps….

In this case, Nature abhors a vacuum-less vacuum.

That’s the thing about vacuums. If they suck, they don’t suck; if they don’t suck, they suck. Either way, it’s pretty sucky.
