O.K., I will say it again. Milford has had limited success since Tod Andrews left for Oakwood. Offer Tod “The Coach in Waiting” title and let’s see if The Larks can make some championship runs.

The last panel would be better if angry evil shaded man were holding a shoe in his hand and pounding it on the table.

Well at least now we know thw villian’s motivation. He’s pissed at his ex wife, so he’s taking it out on all teachers.

Wait! I see where this is going. All of the teachers will show up and give this guy a playful little bonk on the head with their batting helmets and all will be fine. He might even get a gentle smack on the rump for doing a good job.

AssofDoom, I taught for 35 years and never went out on strike. Earned two Masters Degrees and over 30 additional graduate hours. Spent countless time during the summer at meetings and other programs. I’m probably like most teachers, not all. You are like most uninformed, but opinionated people, yes, all.

Wow AOD, no generalizations there! If teachers are so whiny and not doing their jobs then why is my school district the top in the county on standardized tests every year and meeting and exceeding the state’s guideline of “adequate yearly progress” (A+)? This even though the state is now attacking its teachers and passing state laws requiring teacher to pay a good portion of benefits, pay into retirement and take a mandatory pay cut. Yes, this storyline does happen. We had a school board like this a few years back (can’t have those teachers have so much power and keep our district running so well) and now we have state government to match!

Not sure which universe you’re living in, AOD, but it doesn’t resemble mine. Are there teachers like you describe? Of course, just as there are whiny, low-performing physicians, attorneys, machinists, etc, You find that in any occupation. But by and large, the teachers I know are dedicated professionals who — in my opinion, anyway — don’t get paid nearly enough for what they do and what they have to deal with every day (and usually, the problems they have to deal with have little to do with the kids they teach as much as the parents and administrators they encounter). As a father of five kids attending a great public school district, I tip my cap to all teachers and what they do.

More importantly, Hobart’s clenched fist in P3 today shows he’s an Evil Guy Who Means Business. Now I just wish Rubin and Whigham would give him a full beard to cement his bad guy status, a la Mark Trail.

Teachers should be permanently banned from schools.

We can solve our problems in this country without turning on each other, but first we’ve got to recognize the scape-goating tactics of the ideologues for what they really are. Look at how they’re pitting us against each other. This story line is just beginning, but already we’re bickering among ourselves … so it looks like the extremists are ahead at this point. Let’s keep calm and see where this tale goes.

I agree that our schools underperform and teachers should be evaluated by their pupils performance…

Then again, the best ally a teacher can have in a classroom are concerned involved parents/guardians who take a distinct interest in the student and their education. How come the lack of parental support in many schools never gets talked about?

    oops, I digress

The strip pledges to deal with contemporary issues, and this is a big ol’ can of cat food that’s been opened up! As a teacher, I too am tired of the bashing and disrespect generated by the largely uniformed public.. We pay for our pensions, just like the average Joe Businessman. The difference? The goverment regulates Social Security to make sure the employers contribute, and fine them if it is not paid. The government collects our pension money, but if it is not paid, then we get blamed for being greedy. If pension payments were not paid on Social Security, there would be huge fines! But if the government doesn’t make the TRS payments, who can say anything? Lastly, all this is going to do is to send good people who went into education to help others and not be rich, go elsewhere for a career and then we will have a huge teacher shortage, people in front of the classroom that are in it for the temporary job position only, and test scores that go backwards in a hurry. Like other professions, we should be able to weed out those that don’t belong. Like other professions, we have some that are not true professionals. But unlike other professions, we make a difference in peoples lives every single day and we are the future. Because all those people who are criticizing us today are where they are because of a teacher they had along the way. I would like to see salesmen or dentists evaluated by the performance of their clients or patients. That makes as much sense as evaluating teachers based on student performance. That will turn us into the sports world where they fire the manager but keep the players who don’t improve and don’t have the fundamentals to be in the game. Go Milford!
