Cats (and non-working dogsā¦ probably all pets) are surrogate children. And as with children, if we didnāt think they were cute and loveable (thatās NOT the same as them loving us) they would have long ago died out.
Usually when a cat bites, itās not a matter of being mad at you or wanting to hurt you. Ratherās itās a case of ālet me show you this new game I just made up!ā
Saw a meme that showed a cat looking at a deep scratch across its masterās wrist. The caption says, āWhat did you learn today?ā The answer was, āI can make your death look like suicide.ā
We had this huge gray tomcat, One eye, 1 1/2 ears, crooked tail solid gray. He loved children and would let them do ANYTHING to him. If they really got on his nerves, he would just amble off and vanish. One day, āBaby Paulā was playing with him while his Mom was over seeking someone over the age to 3 to talk to.
Suddenly, Paul cried, āKitty bit me!ā
āThat cat would not have bit you unless you did something awful to him, and then you deserve it.ā
(I really donāt think the cat big him. Paul could be over dramatic.)
I acquired a large Burmese/Siamese cross because other than his previous owner, I was the only human he liked. Pound for pound, this was one of the nastiest creatures Iāve ever owned. He would rather bite or scratch you, than look at you.
What was funny was how well he got along and played with my large dogs, completely ignored the other cat in the house, barely tolerated my then-wife, and terrorized any small dog that crossed his path.
I never understood why he was affectionate with me since Iām not particularly a cat lover.
While they are still kittens, if they scratch or nip, I make a big deal out of being hurt. I donāt try to scare the cat or make it mad. I mean a big deal āouch, ouch, ouch.ā Most cats prefer a quiet life, so soon learn to be careful.
Reminds me of our cat, Vicious. Patsy wanted to name her something else but my name fit her much better. Every now and then, without any warning, she would bring her teeth together through your thumb.
Sounds like our cat. If Iām petting him and he turns and looks at me and his eyes get big, I stop it. I learned that from experience. But he does ānudgeā my face a lot.

Actually, infections from cat bites can be quite dangerous.

Milo gives love bites if you pet him too much. I took him because most shelters do away with biting cats and donāt even try to find them homes.

A cat would only bite me once.

Hmm. If your housecat were bigger, it would hunt you and eat you.

We used to have a cat when he wanted attention jump on lap and head bump, when giving a good rub, never knew he bite when he was done.

Muffin bit Nelson probably because Nelson interrupted the cat with his āextra curricularā activities of licking his paw, or meditating.
