Google I take with a grain of salt. All it does is points you to other sites and gathers your information so you can get ads targeted to things you’ve already bought. You are also steered by paid advertising, “behind the scenes” web designs to “optimize” your search engine placement (sometimes “enhanced” by dubious “hit and link” practices) and by what you looked at before.
It’s those other sites that I wonder about. I’ll believe Kohl’s, Target, Walmart, etc.
I don’t even believe my news servers – oh they don’t outright lie, but they serve me up what they think I want to see based on what I usually read. I have to dig for opposing viewpoints. I need to go to Fox and read serval articles to “right” the ship and keep it from listing to port. I read as much Fox as I can stand: know your enemy.
I’ve always taken the media with a big grain of salt mostly because of what they don’t report. It’s tough enough to pick out the biases on what they do report.
As to why anyone would believe anything else on the internet is beyond my comprehension. These are probably the same people who buy penis extension drugs online.
Google isn’t all bad or all good. From my personal experience, Google helps me with info for some of my comments. And I appreciate it. However, I will note that many searches bring up reviews and reports that are too old to apply top current situations. Counting the millions of references found in .00001 seconds sounds good until one realizes that all but the most recent half dozen must be discarded.
When I was helping a college student with her Differential Equations and other engineering math, I found Google to be a great help in getting right to the part I needed to refresh myself on. Once I did that, it came back to me. It’s been 40 years since I took the classes myself.
I learned last week that Google tailors responses based on who is asking. Based on your searches, posts and other stuff you’ll get a response that leans the way you lean.
