I still remember the first poem I ever wrote, when I was in 2nd grade: I love to hear the rain pitter-pat on my roofâŠSome people donât like rain, but I doâŠRain makes the grass growâŠAnd then, sometimes, when it is done, there is a rainbow.
While her overall report is too stupid even for a little girl, her last panel thought is really quite profound. She speaks of her education going down the drain. There are those in education having a rethink about the value of a four year college degree. More are opting out of the full four year program and instead going to a two year tech school or certificate education experience. And experience is the key as more and more employers are looking for those with ability, not just the cognizance to know what cognizance means. High tech jobs now require the ability to work with computers. Even the once lowly secretary must be at least comfortable with Word and Excel, not to mention being able to type 40 wpm. Iâve been trying to find a job for a friend, but she lacks the skills to do the jobs that her body will allow. The jobs that would allow her to sit most of time would also require her to know computers and their programs, a thing she hates doing. But those willing to put out the effort to get the skills to do the job will find good paying positions in the waiting. And most of that skill development training is not to be found in the four year education.
One of the worst parts of teaching is lack of living on the part of students. They have no idea what knowledge and skills theyâre going to need, and itâs difficult to convince them it might be more than they already have.
âIf it were not for the rainâŠâ Snoopy would have to come up with an alternative opening for his novels. âIt was a bright and fair-weathered dayâ just doesnât possess the same drama.
Iâve had homework that went that way â just downhill from the start and instead of a pen it felt like I was using a shovel and getting deeper. Sometimes you just have to cut the losses.

My late mom often parodied âThe rain in Spain stays mainly on the plainâ as âThe rain in Spain goes mainly down the drain.â

I would give Sally a B+ in penmanship. An a possible C for content. She at least tried. And her sentence structure seems OK.

A wide-ranging and mostly factual report, with a foregone conclusion. Love it! :D

Sally is obviously a member of the âBored of Educationâ.

Must be another oral report, which is why Sally gets laughed at a lot in class.

Sally took the more practical approach in her report rather than the scientific one.

My handwriting looks similar to that. Very similar.
Anyway, thatâs one heck of a report. Sheâs not afraid to say how it is.

Panel 4 is pretty deepâŠbut thatâs not unusual for Charles SchulzâŠ
