Was in the dark kitchen getting something to get rid of the burning acid reflux taste in my throat and mouth (have not had this in a couple of years) and I turned around and stepped on a cat tail He screamed, I screamed but nobody got ice cream. :(
You may see all the pictures above yourself, but here are some of the captions:
Once a year, we collect a bin full of catnip. Here, Carlos puts down an old sheet to collect the catnip and prepare it for the cats. When catnip is thoroughly dried, its rough texture is harsh to handle. Carlos carefully places some catnip onto the sheet. Then Carlos places another old sheet on top of the catnip. If handling a smaller batch of catnip, one flat sheet folded in half is sufficient. Carlos steps on the sheet to crumble the leaves and flowers off the stems. He does this a few times until everything is crushed into small pieces. And then picks all the stems that have now separated from the leaves and flowers.
Back in the day we used to use LP album covers for this job.
Catnip grows wild anyplace it wants to grow in my yard. When I was a kid, I was told it’s a weed, but it’s actually an herb, I’ve found out. We even sell catnip plants in our garden center in the spring. The first time I saw that, I thought it was rather odd. Odder still was when people asked if we had catnip (but some of them said it was for their cats). I let the catnip grow pretty much anyplace it decides to plants itself. Occasionally, it pops up in a spot where I really don’t want it. Then I dig it up and transplant it. I have to keep my cats happy!
LOVE today’s strip! Who is that in the background, I wonder? Leaving shortly for the Carson pass area near Tahoe for some crisp mountain air and brilliant aspens. Craig had a favorite fishing spot along the Carson River, I’ll be spreading some ashes. My fluffy little skunk was apparently back last night as my yard reeks this morning.
While the realtor was showing the stripped, abandoned house across one street from me (this was the drug house where the SWAT raid happened several years ago), the friendly tortie from down the street came and rubbed against the prospective buyers’ legs. The price of the large two story house on a corner lot is $29,000. You’d think the buyers would smell a skunk and run from that money pit.
I had two Rose Breasted Grosbeaks stop by the feeders today on their journey south…a female and a juvenile. I watch for them in the spring and fall, usually see them for a week or two, then wait for next migration time.
I once grew catnip in my garden. My cats really liked it. Perhaps a little too much. On another note, saw a dragonfly, a raven, two rabbits, and a robin while out walking today.

I grew some for my mom for tea, but the neighborhood cats rolled in it so much it died. Imagine a frat party with cats.

Not many “holidays” today.
Today is:
National Coffee Day. That’s not for me. I’ll have to substitute cocoa. It’s going to be a chilly, cocoa type day.
