Years ago one of my brothers had a huge black lab/pitbull mix. His cat took him under her paw when it was a pup and he saw her as a substitute mom for life.
He’d run up and lick her forehead with an enormous pink tongue that covered her entire head with dog spit. She’d sit there patiently and then wash it all off when he left.

At least cats maintain cleanliness, unless sick, then it is a quick trip to the vet.
