    That’s what libraries are for. There are three things I never let people use or borrow: books, my sewing machine, my truck. Those were my mothers’ rules when I was child and I’ve kept them as mine in my 70 yrs.

    Ive lost a few books that way

    Ive worked very hard hunting down a nice collection of science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction over several decades

    A lot of out of print stuff, my book collection may be worth more than my car

    I would love to lend them out, but at this point I may require a deposit

    I think I’ve lent only one book in my life, and yeah, I never got it back. Fortunately, I rarely reread, so I give a lot away.
