What I want is turkey but I have no one eat with me or even carve the bird! Let alone cook it— haha
Sooo, I decided to buy a turkey cooked and carved at my local grocery store. I’m spending tomorrow looking for one or two people who want turkey but have none. I’ll give them some of mine. :-)
About two or three years before my mom died, she decided she was sick and tired of going to all the trouble of cooking for days just to have everyone finish eating in 20 minutes, so we had turkey subs…. yeah, the next year the turkey and all the trimmings made a grand return!
No turkey this year. In its place will be filet Mignon with rosemary garlic butter and candied baby carrots and Vitelotte potatoes. Dessert is pecan pie.
In my case, I am going to be preparing the meal. Baking bread, making side dishes, the whole 9 yards. We are quarantining, so the family is small and we see each other every day. Could we do something simpler? Of course. At least for me though – it is therapeutic. My normal outlets are shut down and I need something away from the stress of my work. Plus I am making things that I enjoy eating. Some times there is satisfaction in the labor.
Peking duck and the works from a local Chinese restaurant tomorrow since they’ll be closed on Thanksgiving. They need a couple of hours to prepare the duck so we’ll have to call it in early.
Enlist the kids – show them how to do the main dish and sides, how to prep a turkey, how to cook bread, how to make a meal that’s fit for visitors to admire!

The turkey approves of the pizza roll idea!

Holiday fuss is for family and friends. That’s definitely not what we need this year.

You did if for tradition and yourself, too. I doubt that the kids would have a standout memory of eating pizza rolls…

You could save time and get one that is precooked.
