LOL—the sign of a confident young child captured perfectly! We were sitting on the porch visiting our grandkids Saturday, when the 5 year old sees the neighbor putting up lights and says, “Hi!, my dad says it’s not right to put up Christmas lights until Thanksgiving!”. Our son just laughed, and waved when he came back out and we filled him in.
Let’s see…Alice is narcissistic and Peter is a self mutilating pantophobic. Grandma is nonplussed. Mom and Dad look nonchalant. Guess they’re tired of dealing.
The stark contrast between ebullient, garrulous Alice and hyper-neurotic Petey affects the older generations in differing ways, with Peter mildly embarrassed, Granny disapproving of arm-gnawing, and Madeline ever cheerful and secure in her belief that Everything Will Turn Out All Right….
Looking back on my own childhood….my sis and i….would have run rings around Alice and Petey….literally hahaha….how my parents survived without locking us in our rooms for the rest of our…oh…wait….yeah…they tried that…;)
Mr. Thompson was so brilliant. The drawing of the hostess so perfectly embodies the style and tone of this restaurant that I feel as though I have been there before and can recall every detail of the interior. I’ll have the Salisbury Steak please.

oh, this sure is going to be a fine Otterloop Thanksgiving dinner (like when the Parkers had Chinese turkey for Christmas)

I sort of lose it when Petey starts to chew his arm off.

Hostess must be from down south, sort of like when they say, “bless her heart”. When they really mean, she’s a train wreck.

Obviously, they are not allowed to discriminate against dysfunctional families? Asking for a friend…

Ha ha ha! FOODPILE!! I’m going to use that. Captures exactly what I feel about many ‘restaurants’.

There’s a restaurant besides PJ’s! I guess the Foodpile must be for the more discriminating diner.
