We tried belling the cat. Spouse insisted that the collar be loose enough that she could escape if it got snagged on something. I see her point. Of course the cat promptly figured out how to snag her collar on her hind foot. I bet she jingled for less than an hour, and spent most of it trying to get out.
If your cat goes outdoors, “belling” it only makes it a target for other cats defending their territories. It does NOT protect birds – they don’t know what it means.
I need some of those bells for my team leader at work. The man is so quiet that half the time I don’t know he is there until I turn around and see him. I jump every time.
We do not put anything on our cats. But our dog has a winter coat that keeps her warm in sub zero temperatures. She does not mind it at all. She knows that coat helps keep her warm. But she will not wear boots like our previous dog did. I wish she would because her feet freeze easily.
