Turkeys lack any semblance of whimsy. (Now, peacocks on the other hand, they may act all stuffy and dignified but they’re not above letting loose once in a while.)
I miss when we had a house in Maine and all winter the “ladies” would show up for their corn. We’d go through 100 lbs a month. They’d come “strutting” up the long driveway and wait for me to head out in my bathrobe and hubby’s boots to throw them some in a clearing. Often they slept in our pine trees at night. I have to say it’s something to look up and see a bunch of turkeys sleeping in a pine tree.
My sister raises mostly heritage breed turkeys (just a few at a time) and she has lost one or two of the females to the local wild turkey flock that lives near by. She occasionally sees her “girls” when the flock comes to eat the corn she puts out.

If turkeys are such snobs, then I don’t feel so sorry for them on Thanksgiving!

In California, wild turkeys roam freely everywhere! I just saw a rafter of them last week. It’s a wonder more aren’t struck by vehicles!

And be careful to hide your use of Wild Turkey®, because the distillers could come after you on a copyright beef.
