In MY house growing up, the rule was that everyone had to be up before any presents got opened. If I got caught trying to sneak a peek at 4 AM, I got sent back to bed!

We used to let the kids bring one present upstairs and open it on our bed before we got up. When I was a kid, I’d hurry downstairs to turn on the tree so the bubble lights could warm up. Ahhh, memories. Merry Christmas everyone.

One year (I was 6 I think) I woke up at sunrise and tore open all my presents (hey, it was Christmas day!) before my parents even woke up. They were not happy to have missed the whole experience!

No keeping Calvin down, bet mom and dad not like up that early.

As a child sleeping on Christmas Eve was like Groundhog’s Day. It involved me dreaming that I was waking up on Christmas morning, getting out of my bed, walking downstairs and opening the door to the living room and then I would find myself in bed once again and repeating this frustrating dream over and over again

I wasn’t up till 7:45am today, since there are no young kids in the house. Still felt too early. Merry Christmas.

The tipping point comes when your kids sleep in on Christmas morning and you get up before them. Bittersweet.
