This brings back a very clear memory from Nov 22 1963. Our junior high school principal announced over the PA system that President Kennedy had been shot, and one of the girls in our class broke the stunned silence with a quick burst of nervous laughter. As everyone turned to stare at her, the poor girl’s face turned bright red.
I snort when I hear political commentators or elected officials make comments. Then it hits me, “OH! He (she) was being serious.”) Then I get depressed when I realize that people actually believe it.
The most obvious inappropriate laughter came out of my mouth when I was standing in front of a judge as my first ex and I were formalizing our divorce. Got some VERY strange looks from the judge and others in the court. Some say “inappropriate” I say weird but understandable under the circumstances. I was never so happy to be free of his tyranny as my overlord…

I once laughed at the enormity of the situation. My ex-fiancé never forgot it either.

I can at least chuckle to myself. I would fit right in with Jerry and Elaine (Seinfeld)

The difference between Serious and Belly Laugh is often less than 15 seconds.
