It was remade in 1959, the original was made in the 30’s but with cancel culture probably isnt available any more as it is loosely based on the Aunt Jemima story
my local morning radio show has been playing ‘jeopardy for idiots" this week, the host says the name of an actor and you have to say what he was in. Yesterday he threw out “Harry Morgan” most people would think MASH the person playing said ’dragnet’ my first thought was “Who was henry fonda’s sidekick in ‘the oxbow incident’?”
You might not have seen the movie, but I can almost guarantee you’ve seen either Ned Sparks or a cartoon version of him. Tex Avery LOVED the guy and used his grumpy mug as a model in a butt-tonne of WB cartoons.
Again, I love how Snoopy keeps finding new ways to hang off his house when expressing his frustration…in the old Fawcett crest half-books, this was a particularly entertaining sequence to just look at the last panel over several pages…
I had no idea to what “stack of wheats” referred. I never knew! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCOJfgdULVQ#:~:text=The%20Stack%20of%20Wheat%20is%20a%20classic%20among,to%20go%20back%20as%20far%20as%20O%27Neill%27s%20book.
I’m more familiar with the remake from the 1950s—a super tearjerker! I cry every time I watch it. But I do have both versions on the same DVD. I also know Ned Sparks—great sadsack comedian of the 1930s. I’m a child of the 1970s, but I love movies, music, books, etc from years before I was born. In fact, I know more about movies made before I was born than those made after. lol

Woodstock probably saw the movie perched in a drive-in. (They still had drive-ins in 1974.)

If you ever saw Tex Avery’s “Fresh Fish” (WB, 1939), Ned Sparks is the inspiration for the Old Crab…

I’m guessing that a “stack of wheats” would be wheat pancakes, although my first mental image was of shredded wheats.

Today Woodstock would be working at IMDB…

Pretty little Sandra Dee played in the 1959 version. We all wanted to be Sandra Dee back then.

Woodstock would be a good one to take to a bar when they have trivia night. He wouldn’t drink much either.
